Specialist endodontists and dentists are partners in delivering optimal dental patient care.
"Navid provides a fantastic referral service as a GDC registered Endodontist to our patients. Not only is his endodontic work excellent but he makes himself available to continuously support and advise our clinicians on challenging cases. He delivers a very much team based approach ensuring that he considers and advises on the bigger clinical picture rather than just focusing on the endodontic therapy.
Our clinicians regularly receive very positive feedback from our returning clients about their experiences.
I would happily recommend the valuable service that Edinburgh Endodontics provides for GDPs."

Specialist endodontists are highly skilled monospecialists in performing root canals and diagnosing and treating tooth pain.
Specialist endodontists are experts in performing root canals and other complex endodontic procedures. Root canal specialists deliver the best outcomes with the highest rates of tooth survival. They are focused on saving natural teeth as a priority and perform endodontic procedures (root canals) almost exclusively (99% of what we do).
Evidence shows that specialist endodontists perform about 25 root canal treatments a week vs. fewer than two for dentists on average (AAE). Specialist endodontists are experts who diagnose, treat and relieve endodontic-related facial, oral and dental pain. They are dental pain management experts (e.g. specialised training in administering local anesthesia) and are trained in and use leading technology (e.g. operating microscopes, rotary instrumentation, surgical binoculars, digital radiography, Cone Beam CT just to name a few).
Specialist endodontists use microsurgical techniques to improve patient comfort and save natural teeth. They complete at least three years of advanced and recognised specialist training beyond dental school.
Specialist endodontists are a primary resource for dentists making treatment decisions. Endodontists are available on a consultative basis or when dentists simply need a second opinion, help and advice.
Referral for specialist endodontic procedures is common. Dentists regularly rely on specialist endodontists as their partners and collaborators in patient care. Evidence shows that in a typical year, 98% of general dentists refer at least one patient who needs a root canal to an endodontist. Dentists, on average, refer half of their patients (46%) who need root canals to specialist endodontists each year. One-fourth of dentists refer 90% or more of their root canals. In addition, one-third of dentists acknowledge they have performed root canals that should have been referred to a specialist endodontist (GDP Referral Study, December 2009).
Patients benefit from the dentist/specialist endodontist partnership.
Looking after your patients and providing them with first class treatment and care is at the very heart of Edinburgh Endodontist. We are a monospecialist Endodontics practice and use the very best equipment available. You can rest assured that your patients will be extremely well looked after whilst they are under our care. Patients will be referred back to you for their routine and restorative care. Excellence in specialist endodontic treatment can only be achieved in a multidisciplinary team. Dentists remain the treatment manager of the team and work in partnership with specialist endodontist to achieve a high success rate.
Dental work, in general, causes fear let alone root canals, which cause even more anxiety. Many adults already fear the dentist unfortunately. Pain is the top reason adults avoid the dentist, and root canal treatment is the most feared dental procedure. (2008 Omnibus Survey AAE)
Evidence shows that adults are more afraid of getting a root canal (54%) than of speaking in public or interviewing for a job (both 42%). (2008 Omnibus Survey AAE)
A dentist partnering with a specialist endodontist can put patients more at ease. We use various methods of delivering pain free anaesthesia including IV sedation.
Involving a specialist endodontist in root canal treatment can save patients time and money.
Specialist endodontists understand the treatment manager role of dentists and are respectful of requests to:
Dentists broadly appreciate their working relationships with specialists endodontists.
Referring root canals to a specialist endodontist benefits the dentist’s patients and practice.
You can refer either online, by email or by telephone. We have a dedicated phone line, available solely for referring dentists, enabling me to answer your questions and concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Unless you request otherwise, we temporise the access cavities with GIC, making it very easy for you to carry out the restorative treatment you (and your patient) choose.
Your patients will be given our contact details in case of any questions, or emergencies. Their first point of contact will always be us and you can rest assured that your patients will be well looked after.
Our charges are unrelated to the number of appointments or hours spent on the tooth, allowing us to spend as much time as necessary to complete the treatment to a very high standard.
We promptly send you a letter regarding your patient’s consultation and procedure, along with copies of all relevant radiographs and photographs, to ensure you have a complete record for their files.
We work closely with dental sedationists and specialist anaesthetists and we are more than happy to provide root canal treatment for your patients under sedation.
We routinely organise complimentary CPD (Continuing Professional Development) events for our partners and collaborators. This includes both lectures and hands on courses. We are also happy to come and meet you and the team at your practice, to give advice, guidance and provide a treatment plan if you want to carry out a challenging root canal procedure yourself.
